PALMISTRY IS A FORM OF QUACKERY FOR MAKING MONEY

Assalam oalaikum,

I have discussed earlier in this blog that the hue and cry that is made by some people about the lines on our palms, is totally baseless. It holds no truth from the Islamic point of view. It is a matter of common sense that the lines or creases on our palms are meant to help us to fold our hands easily. They also provide us the required grip while holding something.

These lines appear on the palms of an unborn child because of its soft and delicate skin. These lines develop due to the unborn baby keeping its hands in a folding position. These creases are thereby formed due to the continual folding of the palms. Similar creases can be also observed on the wrists of both our hands. As compared to an adult, an infant’s palm does not have as many creases because an infant does not need to move its hands much as its movements are limited.
The only rational way in which these lines are observed is by the doctors. Many cases have been detected in which infants with a single transverse palmar crease have also suffered from certain genetic diseases. Therefore, the doctors check the palm creases of the newly born babies in order to ascertain whether an infant needs to be medically examined or not. So we find that there is nothing exceptional about the lines on our palms. They appear simply because of continual folding of the skin, just like frowning a lot gives a frown line or smiling a lot gives us a smile line. Now would you believe someone who says that he or she can predict your future by studying the frown line or smile line carefully? Definitely not, as the idea seems to be preposterous. Moreover, the lines on our palms are not constant. This also shows the inconsistency of palmistry.

I have mentioned about the Quranic verses wherefrom we can deduce that nobody except Allah (swt) can claim to have knowledge about the unseen future. The ahadith which I have mentioned below also clearly show that the knowledge of the unseen realm is an attribute of Allah (swt) alone.

Narrated Masruq: Hazrat Ayesha (ra) said, ‘If anyone tells that Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) has seen his Lord, then he is a liar for Allah says, ‘No vision can grasp Him’. (6.103). And if anybody says that Prophet Mohammad (saw) has seen the Unseen, then he is a liar because Allah (swt) says, ‘None has the knowledge of the Unseen but Allah’. (Sahih Bukhari).
Hence, how can a petty palmist/astrologer claim to predict anyone’s future when even Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) possessed vast, yet limited knowledge? This simply means that by claiming to know the future and by offering solutions some quacks are out to exploit the problems of the gullible people for their own material benefit by charging hefty fees.
As we know, palmistry is a so-called method of predicting the future just like astrology. Here are some ahadith which every Muslim should be aware of so that their faith can get rekindled and they do not start believing in things which are completely forbidden in Islam.

Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said, ‘Do not associate with the astrologers (as-hab-an –anjum)’.(Reported by Ahmad)
Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said, ‘Whoever goes to a soothsayer and asks him something and believes in his words, will have his prayers rejected for 40 days’. (Reported by Muslim).
Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said, ‘Who ever goes to a soothsayer and asks him something and believes in his words, has denied the Revelation to Mohammad, i.e. the Holy Quran (Reported by Muslim).
Abu Dawood reported from Ibn Abbas that Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said, ‘A person who learns a part of astrology is as if he learns magic and the more he learns this, the more he learns of magic’.
Al-Nasa’i reported from Abu Huraira, ‘Whoever puts his trust in something (sayings of soothsayers and so on), that will be its only supporter, i.e. he will not receive any Divine help nor success.’
‘Whoever augers an ill omen or the same thing is done on his behalf, predicts the happening of something, or the same is done on his behalf, he is not of us’. (Muslim)

After going through all this evidence against the authenticity of palmistry, astrology etc it is incumbent on every Muslim to keep away from all these evil practices in order to protect one’s faith.
